Curing the Winter Blues

If the cold weather is getting you down, there are a few things you can do to lift your spirits. Before booking a last minute getaway to the nearest tropical beach (you may not thank me but your bank account will), try to make the best of the chilly season and indulge in some stylish pieces to heal the winter wounds.  After some heavy doing layering, put on this lovely black wool jacket from Esprit US. (Product #-KS0428)

The sharp lines and belt allow you to dress up and dress down this military enthused jacket. Military shaped jackets are not only in this winter but are expected to carry into spring so you may want to leave this piece out for those abnormally cold spring days.

Since the temperatures recently dipped below zero, it would be wise to cover those hands.   Although fuzzy mittens may look warm, realistically, you can’t do much with your hands when you are wearing them.  Instead go for French Connection’s Leather biker gloves (Product #-SEA8BBLKOS). It will allow your fingers to roam free so you can still return those important texts.

Lastly, it is a known fact that 50% of heat escapes from our precious heads so it is only logical that we put on this chic patterned tuque (Product #-SHB8TGRYOS) also from French Connection on Shop N Chill™.

The delectable color palate of this hat and added sequins will leave you feeling warm without even wearing it!

Put these items on and you will be ready for any snowmaggedon coming your way.

DRESSING FOR A NEW DAY

It is no doubt that this week has been all about the Inauguration of Barack Obama. If you watched the newly elected President’s speech, you would have witnessed his hopeful words that have surely inspired not only a nation, but countries all over the world.  With this fresh found optimism, there are some pieces that can help us prove we are ready for this new era.

1.  This cotton print tee from Lucky Brand (Product #- LBX13726) will allow you to keep this shining moment of history alive for many weeks after.

2. Wasn’t it the hippies of the 60’s that wore tie dye inspired pieces while fighting for peace? I think so. From Esprit UK, this crinkled blue scarf will make you feel anything but blue. The added fringe gives the piece a little more character, proving that even a little bit of change can go along way in this world.

3. If you were as obsessed as I was with Michelle Obama’s sartorial choices on inauguration day, then listen up. Thanks to French Connection we can lightly mimic her mustard lime outfit with these stunning den tights (Product # SPA8ORIPSM). The bright opaque tights not only reflect this First Lady’s killer style but show what a bright future we have ahead of us.

4 Simple Ways to Look Slimmer With Clothes

posted by Larisa Redins

Want to give the illusion that you are ten pounds lighter? Then read on to discover some simple strategies that will help you achieve this very goal.

#1 - Wear Dark Colours

As you may have heard, wearing the colour black can have a slimming effect. However, you do not have to limit yourself to a “black only” wardrobe as other dark colours can have a slimming effect as well. Consequently, feel free to wear dark colours that can include dark browns, charcoals and navy. Further, if you do have a shorter stature, you should think about wearing dark colours on the lower half of your body as this style of dress gives one the illusion of extra height.

#2 - Wear Clothes That Fit

Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? However, you would be surprised at the number of people that wear clothes that are either too large or too small for them. Those individuals who wear baggy clothes often do so in an attempt to hide extra weight. However, in actuality, the baggy clothes make them look about ten pounds larger on average. Not exactly what you want! Conversely, people who wear clothes that are too tight do so as they want to convince themselves that they can fit into a smaller size of clothes. That said, in actuality, this look highlights any type of flaw that they may have. If these people, instead, wore clothes that fit them, they will exude a polished and confident look.

#3 - Choose the Proper Fabrics

Under no circumstances should you wear shiny, glossy looking clothes if you wish to appear to be slimmer. Further, if you choose to wear bulky fabrics over body parts that you are trying to “hide”, you will only make this area appear (you guessed it!) … bulkier. Instead, you should choose less bulky fabrics - with a more forgiving matte finish - that gently skim over your body.

#4 - Keep It Simple

Keeping your attire sleek and simple is key if you wish to achieve that “slimmer” look. That said, if you love colour and patterns, you could still wear these types of garments as well. However, if you do wear patterns, you should always choose patterns where little of the background colour shows. Further, you should always choose a pattern with a darker background colour - instead of a lighter background colour. Additionally, if you simply cannot live without bright colours in your wardrobe, you can wear a bright coloured top under a suit for example.

Well there you go! Now you are well on your way to achieving a more sleek and professional look.

Now that the holidays are mere memories, it feels like an eternity before spring becomes reality. Until then, those bone chilling temperatures can take its toll on your mind, body and wardrobe. But I'm one girl looking to beat those winter blues with some fresh new finds on Shopnchill.com.

I found just what I needed at Juma. I love their Rosella Tulip dress because it doesn't scream spring colors but could easily worn into the next season. Pair it with some simple hoop earrings, beige, black or white tights and chocolate brown knee high boots. Perfect for work or play—but wouldn't you rather be at play?

Fashion mags rave about the Egyptian look, so think Nefertiti mystique with dark defined eye shadows, slinky clothes and blingy gold. Juma's Jaren top does just that with a gold and silver cowl neck, and tie up waist that shows off all your sexy curves.

This winter especially, I just can't do without my skinny jeans. So easy to pop into my wooley booties or wear at the office with heels. This über affordable grab from Lucky Jeans perks you up and slims you down in all the right places, so if you don't get them soon, I will!

For a fun, funky top that makes for a sexy casual look, Boden's Artisan top will also lend some pizzazz to your step. Kick on a pair of cute black pumps and a bangle or two, and you'll be the fashion envy of all your friends.
